Our Vision.
A Neighborhood Built on a Solid Foundation.
Our Mission.
We strive to empower people to lead meaningful lives as they age, uplifting everyone in our community, including our team members, residents’ families, and community partners.
Our Vision.
We are shaping a future where getting older is embraced as an opportunity to thrive. Aging is another stage in this beautiful journey of life, and it is as important (and as fun) as any other.
Our Values.
We use our voices to bring clarity, to strive for better and to champion fresh ideas, which in turn inspire others to open up.
We try a little harder and stretch ourselves a little further. We’re proud of how rewarding a little extra effort can be.
We care for those around us, and we’re aware of the positive impact our actions have when we act with empathy and generosity of spirit.
We have empathy for each other. Alone we can only accomplish so much—together we can move mountains.

We put our money where our mouth is.
As a not-for-profit organization, our values are at the heart of everything we do. We fully stand behind them by keeping our earnings within the organization, with no responsibility to shareholders.
- The Neighborhood falls under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. According to the IRS, a 501(c)(3) organization “must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes” and “none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual.”

Our history
We’d like to think we have a pretty neat backstory. In 1979, four local churches— St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, and St. Paul Lutheran Church—came together for a shared goal: Meet the need for a nondenominational retirement community for those looking to live a full and active life in the Albuquerque area.
The community they founded, La Vida Llena, was so successful they went on to build another, which became The Neighborhood at Rio Rancho. We’ve now been providing residents with a fulfilling place to live an active and carefree life since 2016.
1983: Where It All Began
The Neighborhood’s sister community, La Vida Llena—which translates to “The Full Life” in Spanish—was founded to provide just that: an active, fulfilling life to meet the needs of the local community. La Vida Llena was made possible with the guidance of the founding local churches, Very Reverend John Haverland, Wendall Carter, Major General USAF Retired.
La Vida Llena’s success was replicated at The Neighborhood, where residents can enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle with all the peace of mind a Life Plan community and Life Care contract offer.
2016: Our Grand Opening
After four years of hard work and planning, The Neighborhood opened to its first residents in April of 2016.
2017: Supportive Care Ribbon Cutting
In early 2017, The Neighborhood held a ribbon cutting to commemorate the community’s ability to provide Supportive Care, including rehabilitation and short-stay respite care. This specialized care accommodates residents’ changing needs and allows them to stay in the community as they receive care.
One of the things residents love most about life at The Neighborhood is the peace of mind that they have access to all levels of care on the same campus, should they ever need it.
