FAQ
Got Questions?
A decision this important naturally comes with many questions and “what-ifs.” You’re in luck, because we have answers—lots of them. But if you have any burning questions you don’t see addressed here (and we bet you do), just let us know. We’ll find the answer for you, and we might even add it to this page.
Although it might sound a bit cliché, there is no right or wrong time to move. However, our general guidance is to move sooner rather than later. That way, you’ll have plenty of time to stay as active as you please and experience all that The Neighborhood has to offer. Plus, it’s a lot harder to make a decision in a time of stress when you’re facing a health crisis. Moving sooner means giving you and your loved ones the priceless gift of peace of mind.
We do our best to be as transparent as possible about the price of living here. Entrance Fees provide structure to support the financial model of a Life Care community, which provides lifetime care regardless of changes in a resident’s health. Your Entrance Fee is based on the features and size of the apartment home you choose and reflects area housing costs.
Your Entrance Fee is determined by the size and style of the apartment you choose (you pay more for bigger, fancier residences and less for our smaller, more modest abodes).
Glad you asked! The Monthly Fee covers way more than we have time to go over here, but a few of the highlights include: all utilities including basic cable television, internet, telephone, indoor and outdoor maintenance, groundskeeping, biweekly housekeeping, meals credits in all our on-campus dining venues, and scheduled transportation for shopping or medical appointments. To get all of the details, visit the Pricing page.
Definitely not—unless by “bored” you mean “enjoying gorgeous mountain views from the outdoor patio,” which is something you can do to your heart’s content. Between our enviable amenities and variety of clubs and classes, there’s never a dull moment at The Neighborhood. There are plenty of picturesque hiking spots nearby, and we organize regular outings to nearby Rio Rancho and surrounding areas.
Yes! We have two on-campus restaurants, The Ponderosa and The Bistro. The Ponderosa is our fine-dining option, and The Bistro is a bit more casual and offers classic American cuisine.
Our fully equipped fitness center and pool allow for plenty of opportunities to incorporate fitness into your daily routine. Or, grab a few friends and join one of our 18 fitness classes (we hold at least two classes every weekday).
Yes, both pets and humans are more than welcome here. We even provide an outdoor dog park so you can enjoy some special time with your two-legged companion.
Short answer: It’s a way to guarantee complete peace of mind for as long as you live here. Longer answer: It’s a type of contract that guarantees you lifetime access to a variety of care and personal services, with the only increase in cost being that your Monthly Fee will adjust to a rate equal to the then current Birch Apartment, plus the cost of two additional meals. It provides the peace of mind that you’ll never have to make a move off campus to receive higher levels of care. It also provides security in knowing that you’ll never have to go into debt to get the exact kind of care you need.
A Life Plan Community (also known as a continuing care retirement community or CCRC) provides residents the comfort of inclusive services and amenities, as well as priority access to care options should they need them.
To become an independent living resident of The Neighborhood, you must be 62 or have a spouse of that age, be able to live independently with reasonable accommodations, and demonstrate the financial ability to meet the terms of the residency agreement. There is no maximum age limit, provided these criteria are met.
Simply put, you both won’t need to move from The Neighborhood. Even if one of you remains in your independent living home, the other can receive care by experienced staff by moving to one of our assisted living, skilled nursing or memory care apartments, all on the same campus
